Capital to host World Ports and Trade summit

ABU DHABI - Abu Dhabi will host the World Ports and Trade Summit next year to discuss issues relating to global economic crisis and recovery impacting trade and ports activity in the region new ports developments worth $46.5 billion taking shape in the Middle East.

 

Scheduled for March 28-30, 2011, the summit will bring together internationally renowned economists, ports authorities, terminal operators, shipping companies, global cargo owners and investors to analyse the future of the industry, to learn about new projects, to understand the investment opportunities, and to find suppliers who can make projects happen.

 

Abu Dhabi Ports Company, which will host the summit, on Monday made the announcement at a Press conference, which was attended by chief executive officers of ADPC, Abu Dhabi Terminals, Arab Sea Ports Federation and event organisers Turret Media ?and Seatrade.
Tony Douglas, chief executive officer of Abu Dhabi Ports Company, said that the summit will deliver a vital exchange of knowledge as the ports and shipping industries look to evolve development strategies in line with economic management and recovery. The UAE is not the only country with grand designs in place for its coastal development. Despite the global economic downturn, spending on port developments in the Middle East is still growing, and industry sources state that $46.5 billion worth of port development projects are currently under various stages of implementation, ?he said.
Industry specialists will discuss at the summit issues relating to the global macro-economic outlook and its impact on the region and analyse how will the recovery influence the pattern of trade.
